Myofunctional Therapy

Myofunctional therapy helps retrain the muscles of the mouth, tongue, and face to function properly. It can address concerns such as mouth breathing, tongue thrust, incorrect tongue posture, swallowing difficulties, oral habits, and other patterns that may affect speech, feeding, sleep, airway health, and dental development. The goal is to create healthy, lasting habits that support optimal breathing, eating, speaking, and sleeping.

Speech Therapy

Speech sound disorders affect a person's ability to produce speech sounds accurately and clearly. These challenges may impact speech intelligibility, confidence, and communication with others. Through individualized, evidence-based therapy, we help children develop the skills needed for clear and effective communication while addressing the underlying factors that may contribute to speech difficulties.

Feeding & Swallowing Therapy

Feeding and swallowing challenges can affect individuals of all ages and may impact nutrition, health, comfort, and quality of life. Difficulties may include picky eating, food aversions, chewing challenges, open-mouth chewing, oral motor weakness, tongue thrust swallow patterns, prolonged mealtimes, or concerns with swallowing safely and efficiently.

Meet Your Speech and Myofunctional Therapist

Alissa Martinez, MS, CCC-SLP, owner and pediatric speech therapist at The Speech Studio in Albuquerque, NM

Alissa Martinez, MS, CCC-SLP

Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist

Hi! I am Alissa - I graduated from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque with my bachelors in Speech and Hearing Sciences in 2005, and went on to attended Northern Arizona University to receive my masters degree in Clinical Speech and Language Pathology.

As a Speech-Language Pathologist, I am passionate about helping individuals achieve lasting improvements in communication, feeding, and overall health by addressing the root causes of their challenges—not just the symptoms. My approach goes beyond traditional speech and feeding therapy to consider the critical role that airway health, breathing patterns, oral function, and overall development play in a person's ability to communicate, eat, sleep, and thrive.

I specialize in evaluating and treating speech, feeding, and oral-motor disorders through a comprehensive, whole-person lens. By understanding how factors such as airway restriction, oral muscle function, tongue posture, and breathing impact speech and feeding development, I create individualized treatment plans that support long-term success.

My goal is to empower patients and families with the knowledge, tools, and support they need to improve function, enhance quality of life, and build a strong foundation for lifelong health and communication.

“Alissa immediately put us at ease with her warm personality and kindness.”

She did an amazing job during our speech therapy sessions and was instrumental in helping us determine the best way to support our daughter’s developmental needs. We felt like we not only got an amazing SLP, but a true advocate and support system through Alissa that helped us navigate our way through our daughter’s developmental journey. Alissa quite literally changed our lives, and we are forever grateful to her.

Alissa has a true gift and passion to give children the tools and the confidence to improve their speech quality.”

She caters to the child's interest to make sure they are engaged in the learning process. Alissa worked hand and hand to make sure that not only my daughter was learning but that I had the tools to implement those practices at home. She made me feel heard and my daughter felt loved during the process. My daughter noticeably improved her speech and her confidence sky rocketed. We are so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with her.
